Easy DIY Drano Recipe That Really Works!!
A clogged drain is never fun, whether it's in your kitchen or in your bathroom. Most likely the reason for your clogged drain could be food stuck in the drain if it's in your kitchen sink, or a pile up of the dish soap you use. In the bathroom, your sink or bathtub drain can get clogged by the products we use including shampoos and conditioners, and also the number one culprit which is hair. It can be easy to just go and grab some chemical drain cleaner from the store, but if you've ever used this stuff, you know just how toxic it can be. It even smells horribly toxic when you're using it in your bathroom. Even though that bleach scent is something that people have come to associate with clean homes, it's actually pretty horrible for our health and for the environment. These chemical products are very harmful to ecosystems and can cause many living beings to die or get horribly ill. So we should not only change our cleaning products to natural cleaners for our own health reasons but for the environment which can't handle us throwing toxins at it all the time.
This is a natural alternative to the toxic drain cleaner you're used to using. It works just as good, and you don't have to subject yourself or the environment to any toxins in the process. If your drain is taking a long time to let the water out of the sink or tub, you probably have a clog of some sort. Instead of grabbing the chemical solution, make this all natural drain cleaner that works like a charm. All you need is some baking soda, lemon juice or white distilled vinegar and water. You'll drain all of the water out of the sink or tub first, and then you'll want to pour some boiling water down the drain to loosen up the gunk in the drain. Then, pour some plain baking soda down the drain. You may need to use the handle of a spoon to pack it down into the drain. You can also use a funnel too if need be. Then, pour some lemon juice down there. If you don't have lemon juice, just use white vinegar, it will essentially work the same in deodorizing and fizzing with the vinegar to break down the clog. Leave the solution in the drain for at least 30 minutes. If the solution is bubbling up too much place something over the drain hole like a cloth to keep it all in the drain. Then come back and slowly pour more boiling water down the drain.
Doing these steps should clear out your drain really well, and it should also leave it smelling better than before. If it didn't fully get the clog out, you could try the entire process again until you get the desired results. To prevent your drains from getting clogged, you can try to make sure that not too much hair goes down the drains in your bathroom by getting a drain strainer that will collect all of the hair before it has a chance to go down the drain. You can also get one of these for your kitchen sink which will prevent your food chunks from going down the drain. Remember a normal sink drain is not a garbage disposal, so keep any food pieces out of the sink drain.
