Build an (All In One) Outdoor Stove, Oven, Grill and Smoker
I love DIY projects! And with the temperatures beginning to warm, the itch to be outside is growing. Living in a colder climate often means many long months spent inside. And now that the sun has begun to shine and pack some heat the return the out of doors is calling. Campfires, barbecues, and picnics. Personally I am not that great with a barbecue. I can do the basic. Burgers, hotdogs and fish. But I don't know how to do much more than that. From time to time I have entertained the idea of an outdoor oven. Not one of those shiny stainless steel things, but one that is brick or earthen. I have yet to tackle building one.
In a recent article in Mother Earth News, there are detailed instructions on how Build an Outdoor Oven! This is not your ordinary outdoor oven. Because of it's interchangeable grates and griddle surfaces, you can bake, you can grill, you can smoke and you can cook! Using a little firewood or coal, you can be ready to bake that perfect loaf bread within an hour. Your typical earthen oven takes up to 3 hours to reach the temperatures need to bake a loaf of bread. Looking to grill some fresh lake trout, once your fire is going you need only to wait half an hour and then you are ready. This little oven is designed to heat quickly and efficiently.
Rather than heating up your home to enjoy an oven baked pizza, or to can summer's provisions, why not build yourself an outdoor oven? Be sure to check your municipalities local building codes. Source out your needed supplies from your local building supply or hardware store. This project takes time so be sure to allow yourself several days to build.
